Member Posts: 24 Location: France | Hi I've just tried Prometheus Bronze Clay (sended by 2 french suppliers). I've encountered firescale. I have followed the firing directions as shown (for the wrappings) on the video and fired 30 min à 750 °C. What could I do to improve the results? Thanks

| Hi Sabine, I Loved your watch, how wonderful it would be if it turned to bright broze colour! If you have a pickling solution you can use it, otherwise, put some vingar in a glass, add some table salt and leave your piece in it for a 15 minutes or more. Then rinse it with water, brush with a steel brush and thats all. After this, leave it in water for some time to get rid of the vinigar which possibly had penetrated the tiny pores of bronze. Vinigar; I would prefer it in my salads but not in a glass close to my nose! So, may I share a secret with you? ODAK, the manufacturer company of Prometheus™ Bronze Clay is about to release a pickling powder, easy to use and without any odour. Send an e-mail to Ozgur; the director of the company, he gladly would send a free sample to your address! A few more hints about reducing fire scale; using some more paper and wrapping with fiber blanket tightly, will help you much. Also, taking the piece out of the package when it is a little bit hot and quinching in water is good also. And one more thing about firing temp/time, 700degC/ 30 minutes for the small pieces like your watch will give petter performance- less fire scale and less deformation. I wish you great success at your following works | |||

| about 15 gr each. Although it left most of the fire scales itself while cooling, I pickeled it then brushed to get rid of the remainders. the colour is peerfffecttt!! Now I have some cukies(loll) in the kiln at 800 deg., I'm impatiently waiting to see what will show up. 15 minutes left.. | |||

| 800deg./ 30 minutes also ok, no distortion, even stronger. Now comes 800 deg./20 min. | |||

Member Posts: 24 Location: France | Yes I am yes I am (serious I so love tests that when you told me it could fire on a kiln shelf at 800 °C, I was sure it could be OK with a torch, so I tried this afternoon By the way, the student I had today is now absolutly sure that I am totally crazy.... when I quenched the piece after the torch firing and I saw it worked, I danced in the studio..... I do prefer golden yellow for bronze so I brush it very hard and it turns beautifful gold colour. That's great because you can play with different colour on a piece : from red to golden yellow!

| Hello there, I am a warmglass artist from TN - USA and have been testing various metal clays using the MicroKiln (microwave kiln) and have successfully sintered Art Clay Silver, PMC and now the new Art Clay Copper. I just read about your new bronze clay and would like to have an opportunity to test it using the MicroKiln. With the introduction of the new metal clays like ACCopper and now your Prometheus Bronze this presents an excellent opportunity for those who cannot afford to purchase a regular kiln to be able to fire silver clay with glass & stones and an opportunity to layer the various quick firing clays just using an inexpensive MicroKiln. The majority of my glass design and metal work is done using a conventional glass kiln, however; the MicroKiln allows me the opportunity to sinter metal clays and cool them in 8 minutes or less. Can you sale your Prometheus Bronze Clay to the United States customers? If you would like to see what I have done thus far with the other types of non-carbon required metal clays please checkout my help desk blog at: http://www.microwavekilnhelpdesk.com --- just scroll down the page from various pics I am excited about your new clay and look forward to working with it. Thank you for an opportunity to discuss ....... Member Posts: 36 ![]() | Hi Sam, I am a metalsmith and the moderator of this website. I have just checked your website to see what is a "microkiln". Honestly, I have never heard someone who uses microwave oven for this purpose and I must admit that I am very surprised. So, before answering your questions, first I must really understand this kiln. I am especially curious about the safety. So, I cannot tell if Prometheus' Bronze Clay safe to use in your micro kilns. Will get more info on that. | ||
